Black Python Devs and Prelude supporting training in Ghana
Happy New Year everyone!
I'd like to welcome the new year with a bit of good news.
Prelude supporting Python and Django education in Ghana
Prelude has adopted 2 Python coding clubs based in Ghana. I'll be pouring a lot of free training into those communities.
These communities have existing social ties and relationships. This makes it easier to:
- Give the right training to the right people (eg: Don't give an advanced Django course to a person who is new to Python, but maybe give them a Git workshop)
- Get high attendance: Community members can hold each other accountable since they know that the community as a whole will be offered more if they show up.
It's also possible to give extra care and attention the folks that lead these communities and work to support others. I've always had a thing for empowering those that empower others.
The last benefit is that by working with specific communities over a longer time-frame it is possible to get feedback about the effects of the training and the the needs of those communities.
A lof of charitable training initiatives are a bit spray-and-pray. Like scattering seeds to the wind. Some of those seeds will certainly grow, it does do good. But by focusing on specific communities I can plant seeds in a more intentional way, and I can come back to nurture those seeds as they grow.

Black Python Devs is supporting this work!
Figuring out how to do this kind of thing while keeping the wolf from the door isn't easy. It would not be possible without support.
I want to give a huge thank you to Black Python Devs for stepping up and helping out.
BPD's goal is to become the largest community of Black Python Developers in the world and establish their community as a source for diverse leaders in the greater Python community.
They aim to:
- Establish guidance, mentorship, and career support for Black Pythonistas around the world.
- Create opportunities for the Python community to invest in local communities of Black Python Devs members.
- Increase participation of Black Python Devs members in existing Python community programs, events, and initiatives.
I'm very grateful for their support, and proud that the work I do supports the BPD aims.
Thank you Black Python Devs!
How else is this funded?
There are 3 streams of funding for this work
- My own work
- Individual donations
- Sponsors and partners
My own work
This free training is funded partially by my own work - I sell premium-quality training to folks who can afford to pay for it.
I aim to price things in a way that opens doors. Folks in the US, UK and Europe can pay reasonable prices for top-notch training, and then I can use the excess funds and capacity to support folks in Africa.
(On that note, if you are unable to afford the full price, please get hold of me and I'll see what I can do to help. My goal is to price things to open doors, not close them.)
- You can see what people are saying about the training here.
- And here are the upcoming workshops. Tickets are on sale!
BONUS
I've added a few bonuses onto upcoming workshops. After attending a workshop, everyone will get one free code review and one free project mentorship session.
All the workshops I run are designed to plant seeds and get folks working on their own projects and ideas. The goal of these bonuses is to help those seeds grow - to help keep people stay on track with their goals, and to answer any unanswered questions you might have after the workshops.
DISCOUNT
Lastly, here is a discount code you can use and share with whoever might benefit:
resolution-time
This will give then a full 20% off any workshop!
Individual donations
This work is also funded by individual donations to our scholarship fund.
If you want to help out in some small way, you can make donations by buying tickets here. You are also welcome to get in touch with me if that mechanism doesn't work.
Sponsors and Partners
As mentioned, BPD have stepped up to support this work and I am very grateful for that.
I am looking for more partnerships and sponsors. If you are keen to get involved, or know someone rich, please get in touch!
My hope is that I will be able sustain and expand what I am doing here.
End
That's all for now folks. I hope some of you are inspired to participate in one of the workshops I'll be running, or to contribute or spread the word. Even small acts of kindness can go a long way in this space.
Want to learn from me?
I'm running some technical workshops and long-term mentorship over at Prelude. These are damn fine learning experiences for individuals and teams.
The training covers skills such as: Python, Django, HTMX, AlpineJS, Git, Tailwind, Playwright and more.
